A favorite Z buzzword was "viral marketing", and as far as it went, the eCard (or Postcard) System I wrote enjoyed some success in this goal. The database driven system provifded numerous reports, respectable user assistance, and boasted easy configuration allowing us to add a new set of cards in just a couple of hours -- including the time to create the graphics!
Cards recipients were sent an email with a unique URL that took them to their card, some as graphics, some HTML, and some in Flash -- all reading from Oracle.
Part of the site development process is providing the client, even an internal one, with comps. Comps provide an accurate depiction of a site's look. Assembling these into storyboards that mimic the flow of a site allows everyone the opportunity to identify possible weaknesses and rough edges before any expensive coding has been done. Coding begins only after the client has signed-off on the site map and comps.
Here are the original comps for the postcard system. Yes, the originals were bigger.
