Photo Galleries

Most photo galleries can be navigated using your keyboard instead of that annoying mouse, including slideshows. When on a gallery page press "H" for Help. I'm working on cross-platform/browser support, so please let me know if you experience problems, though no promises. . If you'd like a copy of the gallery script or instructions on how it works, it's available here. Oh, my gear.

iPhone Photos

iphone photos Perhaps not the best, but it's darn handy.

Freshies!

Fresh Photos Check-out the Freshies Gallery, photos added every few days as quickly as I'm able. Always a great place to start. (the newest photo always appears in the right-sidebar, under the CompactFlash)

Henan Province Shaolin Monks & Acrobats

Henan Province Shaolin Monks & Acrobats Grand Performances, downtown Los Angeles. Combining Kung Fu, music, and those bendy-straw moves that just make you squirm, Thurday July 28, downtown Los Angeles' Grand Performances. And Mayor Antonio R Villaraigosa put in an appearance.

Europe '05

Ludlow, Courts, Europe I'll put more, and more, and still more pics up -- a month with a camera had to end like that. In the meantime, here are some quickies that should go a long ways toward boring you. There are two random galleries, subsets of the complete photo extravaganza (zah-zah-zah-zahh): newest and Europe 2005: a Primer. Otherwise, if you need to eat your desert after the cheese course, here be the complete trip, pre-sliced, manageably chewable galleries in what seems to be a mostly chronological / by country order:

Rene & Feona

Scott and Jill Ariagno plus miniatures With a scant three weeks to go before their wedding Rene and Feona met Ludlow & I (me? darn engrish) at the South Pasadena Library where we proceeded to try their patience as I monkeyed about with camera settings that ought best be left alone and Ludders continuously saved my butt via judicious use of the 42-inch fill-reflector.

April 22 Update: Everyone made it through the wedding, kudos to all, and special thanks to Paul and Ludlow and the folks at Gem Stone Video for helping me through this.

Scott & Jill Make Splash in L.A.

Scott and Jill Ariagno plus miniatures Got to meet up with Scott's quite nice family at Venice Beach where we strolled about and introduced the miniature Ariagnos to the wonders of sand in the belly-button. Even better, under a softly overcast sky a brief cameo by a pod of dolphins ended the trip on a high note.

Nature Photos

jacaranda tree bloom Street photography? Yeah. Really wonderful stuff — provided you're able to ignore the hostility, be it confrontations with security or whithering glares — in short, fine if you're not an insecure human (uhh, hi). Thus this alternative: photos of plants and critters, living things whose verbal abuses can rarely inspire guilt or raise hackles. Behold the majestic jacaranda.

Spikey, Thorny Silk Floss Tree

Silk Floss Tree (Chorisia speciosa (Family Bombacaceae)) While combing the resplendent Brand Library's music collection we got some photos of the silk floss trees that surround the Morracan-style building. These tree's spikes have always been a bit of an oddity to me -- somehow never appearing menacing, but clearly one of the best defended plants around. Perhaps it's because the thorns look like Hershey's Kisses. (maximize your browser, oversized photos)

Thanksgiving

Ludlow cooks his first turkey All of those hours of Good Eats paid off big time when Ludlow cooked his first (brined) turkey, though the kitchen was a wee bit smokey.

San Francisco/Halloween '04

San Francisco Halloween Ludlow hits SAP training in Foster City while I camp out at the city's new, glass library (wifi!!), then into Frisco (SanFran if you must) to hang with Mark and June. The obligatory trip to Mama's Girl, Mitchell's Ice Cream, and Farley's.

Kansas in the Fall

Kansas Every Wednesday at 7PM a group of strangers gather at the Nichols Fountain on the Country Club Plaza for a few hours of tag. The Tag Institute runs this awesome event. (a good write-up in this Star-Telegram story-- lame-o but free sign-up required) Lots of of other homey farmers' market pics, too.

Ludlow's Parking Job

Superfast, Ludlow's VW Jetta breaks for freedom This really happened: I arrive home in Silverlake to find a concerned, dejected Ludlow sitting on the front stoop, his car was down the hill, and sort of up another -- into the neighbor's yard, where it had come to rest after a quick backwards roll and jump over the curb. That it didn't go any further is the amazing and fortunate part: houses and concrete walls lined the remainder of the street and the bottom of the hilly street.

Europe '04

I'll pull some of the pics from the PDF album, and post the album again. Lots of the typical shots, but a few quite good ones, too, starting with a few of the Zinneke Parade.

Europe '04 Part 1: the Zinneke Parade

Zinneke Parade, 2004, Brussels, Belgium Pulled some pics from the PDF album of the entire trip (will post the album in its entirety again soon as well as some galleries). This parade, held in Brussels every two years, celebrates the city's 13 neighborhoods. A Burning Man aesthetic, with more kids and snails.

Favorite Places: L.A. & Beyond

Courts' Favorite Places Slowly rebuilding the guide, my once all-powerful list of best eats and digs around places I've been stuck. This time there's accompanying photos.

Room 1212 Production Stills

Room 1212 You'd think we'd have oodles of pics from laboring away on this film, but honestly everyone was so danged busy and we didn't have an assigned photographer that we have very few behind-the-scenes photos. Perhaps we'll do better on the feature. Make that "definitely".

Photo Collection

A catchall for photos taken anytime over the past five years.

Whole Lotta Ludlow

Ludlow Brown For allowing me to take a gazillion pics I offer this -- a humiliating gallery of, dare it be said, silly Ludlow expressions.

Payback: pics of me

Courts Buz Carter Payback for all of the pics of I've taken of my friends and coworkers, here are some shots of me.

Cartoon Collection

Sketches proving my clumsiness drawing directly in Painter without a scanned undersketch.

Halloween (2002)

The annual ritual of heading to the pumpkin patch and then back to Pam's for the carving.

Venice Garden Tour '02

Fundraiser offers unique opportunity to see some of the best landscaping throughout Venice Beach. venicegardentour.org

San Francisco/Minneapolis

A bunch of mostly nature photos from Minneapolis/San Francisco trip that ... never mind. I'll put a few up nonetheless, mainly because I love this picture of my foot out the car window somewhere along the 5.

L.A. Auto Show '02

Quick trip through the autoshow -- too few concept cars, too much like going down Brand Ave in Glendale.

Sundance Film Festival '02

Sundance Film Festival Sara's short "A Big Issue" got accepted at Sundance for online, so we all tagged along to take advantage of Park City's great boarding.

Burning Man (1998)

Burning Man Some scanned photos from BM a few years back. The year of the 4AM hockey arena, submarine bursting out of the playa floor, and a great burn.

Vintage Pizza Splash Images

Pizza By The Slice splash Images that once graced the splash page of Pizza By The Slice.

Z.com: zintranet

Z.com photos, zintranet Ahhhhhh, nostalgia ain't what it used to be. Some fine photos from z.com, mostly from zintranet. I recommend slideshow mode (press "S" to start/stop the gallery's slideshow) while playing Red Hot Chili Peppers or Methods of Mayhem, no, wait, Star*69 or any Joan Jones/Prom Queens tune would be best. I suppose it all depends upon your start date, or, an alternative timekeeping method: Pacific Ricardo Lay-off Time.

More Z.com: Behind the Scenes

Z.com behind the scenes photos Some shots taken during various shoots and events at the Burbank and Pasadena offices.
